Hidlay Comes Up Short at WNO

| October 17, 2015 | 0 Comments

Hayden Hidlay owned three wins over Mason Manville this year but fell short of victory number four, dropping a 3-1 overtime decision to the Penn State bound grappler at the Who’s Number One event at the Snake Pit in Lehigh Saturday night.

Hidlay defeated Manville at the Junior National Cadet and Freestyle tournament in July and last week at the Journeymen Classic.

WNO proved to be a different story.

After a scoreless first period, Hidlay chose down and escaped for a 1-0 advantage early in the second. Both wrestlers pummeled each other upperbody and the period ended with the Mifflin County wrestler in front.

Manville took down and escaped quickly to even thing up at 1-1. The third period was identical to the second with some solid scramble wrestling from both contestants.

In overtime, Manville got behind Hidlay and got him to the mat with only two second left in the first OT for the 3-1 win, avenging his earlier losses.

Hidlay, counting this and the Journeymen tounrey, is 94-3 this offseason.

Next up for Hidlay is the Super 32 in North Carolina. Fellow Husky wrestlers Noah Stewart, Trey Hartsock and younger brother Trent Hidlay will join Hayden in the Tar Heel state.
