Hidlay, Kibe Place Second at Phil Portuese Tournament

Mifflin County grapplers Trent Hidlay and Trey Kibe placed second at the Phil Portuese Tournament at East Stroudsburg on Saturday.

Hidlay cruised into the 160-pound Junior division finals with three technical falls and a pin. In the finals, Trent fell 6-2 to Hunter Bolen, a 2016 state champion from Virginia.

In the Schoolboy division, Kibe made the 128-pound finals with a 6-5 decision and a tech fall. In the finals, Jackson Dean of Delaware handed Kibe a 10-0 loss.

Hidlay Impressive in Phil Portuese Tournament; Wins University Level Title

If anyone had any doubts about Hayden Hidlay and his ability to compete at the college level ended today. Hidlay entered his first college age tournament and proved he can compete at the next level by going 5-0 to capture the 70kg  title at the Phil Portuese Freestyle tournament in East Stroudsburg on Saturday.

Hidlay’s impressive run started with a 10-0 technical fall over Tristan Rifanburg. In the second round, the Husky senior rolled to a 10-0 tech fall over Matt Cimato of Drexel. Cimato is a two-time NCAA qualifier who was seeded fourth for nationals this season and owns a win over Jason Tsirtsis, former national champ from Northwestern.

In the quarters, Hidlay took out future teammate Sam Speno by a 10-6 score and rolled to another 10-0 tech fall over Lou Mascola of Maryland in the semifinals.

Hayden saved his best win for last – defeating Randy Cruz of Lehigh in the finals with a 9-4 victory. Cruz placed eighth at nationals to earn All-American status.

Allison Wins Ohio Tournament of Champions; Kibe Takes Fourth

Eight kids wrestled at the Ohio Tournament of Champions from Mifflin County and Nic Allison went 3-0 and won the 14-under, 68-pound championship last Saturday.

Trey Kibe went 6-2 and placed 4th at 126 pounds in the 14-under division. Also wrestling but not placing were Kyler and Kamden Everly, Christian Fisher, Layten and Landen Bowersox and Carter Yohn.

Pinning Down Autism Duals Update: Trent Hidlay added to PA Roster

Trent Hidlay joins brother Hayden for Team Pennsylvania at the Pinning Down Autism All-Star Duals at Muhlenberg College in Allentown on Saturday, April 23.

Trent replaced Nino Bonaccorsi for Team PA and will wrestle at 170.

All-Star teams from seven other states will compete in this charity event. Flo Wrestling will broadcast live on Saturday.
