Hidlay Moves Up in Latest InterMat Class of 2018 Rankings

Trent Hidlay moved up eight spots to No. 23 in the InterMat Class of 2018 Top 50 rankings. The soon-to be-junior is fresh off a runner-up finish at the PIAA championships and a successful off-season.

Hidlay is fourth among Keystone State wrestlers behind Jefferson-Morgan’s Gavin Teasdale (No. 3), Michael Beard of Malvern Prep (No. 5), and Nazareth’s Sammy Sasso (No. 6).

Below are the Top 10 in the Class of 2018:

Trent Hidlay Top 10 at 160 in 2016-17 Flo Rankings

Mifflin County’s Trent Hidlay is seventh at 160 pounds in the first rankings by Flo Wrestling for the 2016-17 season.

Hidlay is the top-ranked Pennsylvania wrestler in his weight class. Joining him in the top 20 Flo Rankings is Travis Stefanik of Nazareth, who lost 7-3 to older brother Hayden Hidlay in the PIAA semifinals last season.

Brady Berge of Minnesota is first in the country at 160. Franklin Regional’s Spencer Lee, an Iowa recruit, is the number one pound-for-pound wrestler in the nation, according to Flo.

Hidlay Goes 7-1 in Junior National Freestyle Duals; Team PA finishes 5th

Trent Hidlay capped off an outstanding Junior National Duals in Tulsa, Oklahoma by going 7-1 in freestyle. Hidlay was 7-0 in Greco-Roman to end the week 14-1.

Hidlay collected four technical falls and three decision victories. His lone loss was to Jake Allar of Minnesota by a 3-2 score. Team PA defeated Iowa 35-32 to place fifth in the team race.

Hidlay Goes Unbeaten at Junior National Greco-Roman Duals

Trent Hidlay went 3-0 on day two to finish 7-0 overall at the Junior National Greco-Roman Duals in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Thursday.

Hidlay, competing at 160, had five technical falls, a fall and a regular decision during the competition. Team PA finished 18th out of 34 teams.

Freestyle begins Friday and continues on Saturday.
