The Mifflin County wrestling team, along with 24 others, will venture down to Lancaster on Friday to compete for the Conestoga Valley Holiday Wrestling Classic title.

It’s a field loaded with individual talent and four teams ranked in the top 25 in the state: Owen J. Roberts is third; Manheim Township is 10th; Spring Grove comes in at No. 22, and Mifflin County is one behind at 23.

In addition, Cesar Rodney, the defending AA Delaware team champs, Westfield (VA), and Moorestown (NJ) will be there as well.

The 25-team field is as follows: Avon Grove, Caesar Rodney (DE), Conestoga Valley, Crestwood, Dallas,  DuBois, Exeter, Hamburg, Huntingdon, Juniata, Manheim Township, Marple Newtown, Mechanicsburg, Mifflin County, Moorestown (NJ), New Oxford, Owen J. Roberts, Oxford, Penncrest, Pittston, Red Lion, Spring Grove, Waynesboro, Westfield (VA), and Wilson (West Lawn).

Owen J. Roberts leads the way with six state ranked wrestlers, while DuBois is next in line with five.

Below is a preview capsule of each weight class with ranked wrestlers and/or returning state qualifiers:

106:

This weight class features five ranked wrestlers. Jason Rinaldi (Marple Newtown) is third; freshman Collin Glorioso (Huntingdon) is seventh in Class AA; freshman Shea Bloom (DuBois) is eighth; Ashton Waite (Owen J. Roberts) comes in at No. 11, while Edgar Garcia (Avon Grove) is ranked 12th. Daulton Wilson (9-4) is having a solid season for the Huskies and he’ll have to wrestle his best to have a chance at the finals.

113:

This is a two-man contest.

Mifflin County’s super frosh Hayden Hidlay, 13-1 and ranked fifth in the state, should meet Derek Gulotta of Owen J. Roberts in the finals. Gulotta, a PIAA eighth place finisher last season, is ranked fifth in the state this year. Derek Carlisle (Spring Grove) is rated 25th.

120:

Two-time Delaware state champ, Mica Hight could be the favorite at this weight. Also in contention are state qualifier Domenic Degraba (Dallas), Connor Moyer (Wilson-West Lawn), Pat Callaghan (Marple Newtown), and Zack Clingan (Spring Grove). Degraba is ranked 13th; Moyer 21st; Callaghan 22nd, and Clingan 24th. Isaac Underhill (12-3) should make some noise after a seventh-place finish at the King of the Mountain.

126:

The clear favorite at 126 is Manheim Township’s Matt Grossman, a PIAA runner-up a year ago. The junior is currently ranked fifth and is coming off a 7th place finish at Beast of the East. Ryan Flynn (Marple Newtown), along with freshmen Lucas Ortiz (Owen J. Roberts) and Noah Stewart (Mifflin County) will provide a challenge.

132:

Cortland Schuyler, a state qualifier from Manheim Township, is the only ranked wrestler in this weight class. The junior had an impressive showing at the Beast of the East, finishing fourth. Mifflin County’s Lucas Besch (9-4) isn’t ranked, but is a returning state qualifier.

138:

Sean Heggs, a PIAA fourth-place finisher a year ago for East Juniata, is now with Juniata and is the clear favorite in this class. The senior is ranked third in the state in Class AA and brings a 10-2 mark into the tournament. Alex Smith (Manheim Township), Garrett Brown (DuBois), Mike Hartman (Spring Grove), and Derek Arnold, a state placewinner from Westfield, Virginia, are also in the mix.

145:

Mason Bentzel (Spring Grove) and Adam Smith of Manheim Township are ranked fifth and seventh respectively to lead this weight class. Mifflin County freshman Brandon Wilson is having a nice season so far and comes into the event at 9-3.

152:

Matt Hammerstone has a cool name and the highest ranking of any in this class. The product of Crestwood is fifth in the state. Owen J. Roberts’ Adam Moser, state qualifier a year ago, is sixth and Alex Kramer of Exeter is 22nd. Husky Joe Knarr is 10-4 and on a pinning steak of late.

160:

Kyle Shronk (Owen J. Roberts) is No. 9; Mitch Ramsey (Mechanicsburg) is No. 10, and Stephen Aiello is a retuning state placer from Westfield, Virginia. Jeff Kramer of Conestoga Valley could make some noise at this weight class.

170:

This is the toughest weight in the tournament. A loaded class that features a PIAA state placer and two state qualifiers. Leading the way is Joey Krulock of Mechanicsburg, who placed seventh at states last season and is currently slotted at No. 3. Tom Sleigh (DuBois) and Joe Gartland (Penncrest) were state qualifiers a year ago. Andy Francos (Wilson-West Lawn) is ranked eighth, while Kris Roccograndi (Dallas) comes in at No. 22.

182:

Gordon Bollig, state qualifier from Owen J. Roberts is ranked seventh; Tyler Schell (Red Lion) was a state qualifier last season and is one notch below Bollig at No. 8. Shane Marshall (DuBois) is ranked No. 22 and Tyler Morson (Westfield, VA) are contenders.

195:

Landon Hanna of DuBois is the lone ranked wrestler in this weight class. The senior is rated fourth and is a returning PIAA qualifier.

220:

Hunter Hatlec (Wilson-West Lawn) is a returning state qualifier ranked No. 7, while Brad Trego (Owen J. Roberts) is 12th.

285:

Ryan Monk (14-1) of Dallas is the only state-ranked wrestler in this weight class.

All in all, this should be a nice challenge for the Huskies as they get ready to venture into the heart of their schedule in 2013.
