District 6 Class AAA Duals Preview

| February 2, 2018 | 0 Comments

The Mifflin County wrestling team and coach Kirby Martin hope the third time is the charm when they face Central Mountain in the semifinals of the District 6 Class AAA Duals at Tyrone on Saturday.

The Huskies (9-5) already faced the Wildcats (12-1) twice this season – dropping a 40-24 decision in the finals of the Dallastown Duals and a 41-21 loss at Mill Hall.

Central Mountain’s only loss this season is to top-seed Bald Eagle Area 39-33. The Wildcats, ranked 19th in the state, boast a balanced lineup throughout led by ranked wrestlers Seth Andrus (No. 17 at 132), Asher Corl (No. 14 at 160), and Tanner Weaver (No. 14 at 170.) Andrus is 24-3, Corl is 21-6, and Weaver is 24-4 on the season. The strength of Central Mountain is its balance with 11 wrestlers at .500 or better.

Mifflin County, ranked No. 21, will once again be shorthanded against the Wildcats. Joey Taptich, who has missed the whole season, is still not cleared after breaking his hand and the Huskies will have no entry at 106.

The Huskies boast three ranked wrestlers – Trent Hidlay (No. 1 at 170, Christian Fisher (No. 14 at 113) and Trey Kibe (No. 9 at 152). Hidlay (27-0) owns a 65-match winning streak and a 140-14 career record. Fisher checks in at 22-6, while Kibe is 26-5. Other wrestlers with winning marks include Derek Burk (15-11 at 120), Logan Wise (20-10 at 126), John Retherford (12-11) at 138, Jacob Krepps (17-10 at 182) and Kross Todaro (18-9 at 220).

The match comes down to the same old same old when two solid teams meet – have your studs get bonus points, avoid giving up the bonus when you’re the underdog and win the toss-up matches.  Potential toss-ups bouts are at 120 and 220.

In the top of half of the bracket, BEA (13-0) faces county rival and fourth seed Bellefonte (9-6). Below are the potential matchups for all four teams in the Class AAA duals.

Action begins at 2 p.m.  for AAA with AA kicking things off at 10 a.m.
