Fisher, Hidlay Advance to Quarterfinals at PIAA Championships

Christian Fisher (113) and Trent Hidlay (170) won opening round matches to advance to the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class 3A championships on Thursday.

Fisher (32-7) opened his tournament with a 9-2 victory over Andrew Smith of Nazareth. Fisher avenged an earlier loss to Smith at the PIAA Duals by scoring nine unanswered points after falling behind 2-0. The Husky junior meets Killian Delaney (39-5) of West Chester Henderson in the quarterfinals.

Hidlay (40-0) began his run to a second state title with a dominant 19-4 technical fall in 5:04 over Jesse Quatse of Greensburg-Salem. The Husky senior faces Neamiah DiggsĀ  (29-3) of Harrisburg in the quarters. Hidlay has now won 78 in a row.

Freshman Trey Kibe (38-7) went 1-1 on the day, losing 5-3 in overtime to William Evanitsky of Scranton in the first round before bouncing back for an 11-0 major over Cole Flanagan of Council Rock South in the first round of consolations. Kibe hooks up with Luke Kemerer (38-3) in the second round of consolations.

Sophomore Derek Burk (25-17) saw his season come to a close after going 0-2 on the day at 120. Burk dropped a 13-4 major decision to Tyler Kocak of Hampton in the prelims and lost in the consolations to Paniro Johnson of Erie Prep 8-3.

Quarterfinals and second round consolations begin tomorrow at 2:15 p.m.
