Trent Hidlay came up short in his bid for a Junior National Freestyle championship, falling in the finals to Aaron Brooks of Maryland by a 13-3 technical fall.

Hidlay rolled to the finals, shutting out six opponents by a 66-0 score. In the finals, Brooks, a double Cadet National titlist a year ago, opened with a 1-0 lead early. The two-time Maryland state champ posted two four-point takedowns in the first period sandwiched around a Hidlay takedown and passivity point to make it 9-3. In the second period, another four-point move by Brooks set the final score.

Hidlay has to switch gears now and focus on bringing home a Greco-Roman national championship, something brother Hayden did in 2015. Greco action starts Thursday at 9 a.m.
