Spencer Lee hasn’t lost much in his stellar wrestling career but at the UWW Cadet National Freestyle championships iin Akron, lose is what he did.

Lee, ranked No. 1 in the country, met fast-risingĀ  and second ranked Daton Fix of Oklahoma in the finals at 54kg and Fix defeated Lee 2-0 in the best-of-three match.

Fix scored a 5-5 tiebreaker win in bout one and in match two, the sophomore rallied from a 4-0 first period deficit to win 9-6, thanks to a nifty ankle lace that garnered him four points. Lee’s only points in period two came on a late takedown.

Two other Pennsylvania wrestlers made it to the finals and came away with Cadet championships.

At 50kg, Gavin Teasdale, a state champion this past season for Jefferson-Morgan as a ninth grader, defeated Drew Mattin of Ohio 4-1 and 4-2 to win his title.
