MC at Powerade: Day Two – Hidlay Wins Title; Myers Finishes in 7th

After a runner up finish a year ago, Mifflin County’s Trent Hidlay came to Powerade determined to capture the championship. Mission accomplished.

Hidlay made his top seed stand up with a tough 7-4 victory over Dale Tiongson of Maryland in the 170-pound Powerade finals Friday evening.

The Husky sophomore, who finished second to Jake Wentzel a year ago, improved to 15-0 on the season and did something even big brother Hayden couldn’t do – win a Powerade championship.

Hidlay opened the action in the first period with a takedown using his underhook to a far knee for the deuce. Tiongson,a national prep runner up last season, used a hip over to gain the reversal to even it up a 2-2. Hidlay hit a nice switch with 13 seconds to go in the period for the reversal and a 4-2 lead after one.

Tiongson escaped and almost had a bear hug takedown at the edge of the mat in period two. The frame closed with Hidlay leading 4-3. Trent chose down to start the third and quickly escaped to make it 5-3. Two stall calls on Hidlay cut the lead to 5-4 before Hidlay slipped a shot attempt by Tiongson for the 7-4 win.

Hidlay reached the finals with a 5-4 win over Tim Wallace of Albert Gallatin.

Noah Myers went 3-1 on the day, winning two matches in overtime, to finish seventh at 126 pounds. Myers (7-4) started his day with a 3-2 win over Dylan Ross of Connellsville and a 2-1 tiebreaker victory over Gage Bayless of Reynolds. Myers dropped to the seventh place match after losing to Kiski Area’s Noah Levett 4-3.

Myers locked up seventh and gained some revenge with a 6:30 fall in overtime over Nick Coy of Penn Trafford. Coy defeated Myers in the second round by a 2-1 score.

Mifflin County finished in 19th place with 69 points.
