Mifflin County hits the road tonight to take on the big dogs of the Mid-Penn Commonwealth, the Central Dauphin Rams.

Central Dauphin comes into the match with a 16-0 mark and the second-ranked team in the state behind Canon-McMillan. The Rams won three consecutive state team titles before finishing second a year ago. CD has not lost at home in nine years. In addition, CD is rated No. 32 in the nation by Intermat.

It will be the toughest test of the year for the 14-4 Huskies, but its matches like these head coach Kirby Martin wants his team to face. Only by going against the best do you become the best.

The Rams are 6-0 in the Mid-Penn and own victories over Harrisburg (65-11), State College (67-0), Chambersburg (49-18), CD East (72-3), Cumberland Valley (36-24), Penncrest (70-3), Central Bucks East (62-10), Connellsville (48-14), St. Paul’s (68-10), Abington Heights (83-0), Carlisle (55-13), Downingtown East (52-9), Avon Grove (78-6), Perkiomen Valley (68-6), Garden Spot (45-15) and Pennridge (51-19).

Central Dauphin has six wrestlers state ranked, led by defending PIAA champion Garrett Peppelman. The junior is 27-0 on the season and ranked first at 160 pounds. He is also ranked  No. 7 nationally.  Former Lewistown resident Tyson ‘Buck’ Dippery is second in the state at 138. Dippery was a PIAA runnerup last year and is currently ranked No. 8 nationally.

Austin Rose is rated No. 2 at 152, while Colton Peppelman is No. 5 at 170 (Peppelman has been wrestling at 182). Terrance Parsons is ranked No. 22 at 182, but wrestling at 195. Zach Elvin, a state qualifier last season, is ranked 15th in the state  at 113. The sophomore is out with an injury but his replacement, Austin Camacci, is 19-5 on the season. No word on Elvin’s status for tonight’s match.

Mifflin County, 3-2 in the Mid-Penn, is coming off a dominate performance at the Husky Duals. The home team went 5-0 and out-scored its opponents 269-65.

The Huskies have victories over Daniel Boone (57-9), Columbia (63-11), Ephrata (53-17), Garden Spot (52-17), Altoona (49-23), CD East (51-15), Shikellamy (48-15), Harrisburg (60-9), State College (54-9), Wellsboro (66-6), Souderton (70-3), Pen Argyl (49-22), Conestoga Valley (33-22) and Penn Manor (51-12). The losses came to Downingtown East (43-20), Cumberland Valley (42-18), Central Mountain (33-29) and Chambersburg (31-23).

Mifflin County is getting solid performances all throughout the lineup and Martin and company need that to continue if the Huskies hope to stand a chance against the Rams.

There could be many twists and turns in this dual meet. Central Dauphin could forfeit to Hidlay and bump Camacci up to face Underhill. Dippery could move to 145 and take on Wilson with Pleskonko going down to face Bair, or both teams could stand pat with the projected lineups.

Either way it will be an exciting meet.
