Mifflin County vs. Central Mountain Preview

| January 9, 2013 | 0 Comments

For the last six years, Central Mountain has been the kings of District 6 wrestling.

The Wildcats have won six straight D6-AAA tournament titles and five consecutive dual meet crowns, including a 46-18 defeat of Mifflin County in last year’s final.

Central Mountain ventures into the Husky gymnasium to meet Mifflin County in a preview of what may well be the District 6-AAA Dual Meet finals next month.

The Huskies (8-2) will try and knock the Wildcats (6-1) off their perch in this showcase matchup tonight at 7 pm.

Mifflin County is coming off a 42-18 setback at the hands of Cumberland Valley. The Huskies were dominated on their feet by a 27-8 margin in the lopsided defeat. A rebound effort is needed in a big way.

Hayden Hilday, 13-1 and ranked fifth in the state at 113, is still out of the lineup with concussion symptoms and that forces the Huskies, who will be giving up six points right out of the gate, to minimize mistakes and win the many potential toss-up bouts on the docket.

Mifflin County owns victories over Daniel Boone (57-9), Columbia (63-11), Ephrata (53-17), Garden Spot (52-17), Altoona (49-23), CD East (51-15), Shikellamy (48-15) and Harrisburg (60-9). The Huskies other loss came at the hands of Downingtown East (43-20) at the Ephrata Duals.

Central Mountain suffered a stunning 32-30 loss at the hands of Philipsburg-Osceola in its dual meet opener, but has since reeled off six straight victories, defeating Great Valley (67-6), Bloomsburg (60-21), Muncy (57-11), Downingtown West (43-25), Central Columbia (31-25) and Bellefonte (51-17).

Head coach Doug Buckwalter brings in a stellar 254-81-3 career mark in his eighth season with the Wildcats. Buckwalter also coached Lock Haven for 11 years before the merger of Lock Haven, BEN and Sugar Valley into Central Mountain High School.

Leading the way for the Wildcats is Blaze Buckwalter at 195. The senior, ranked No. 8 in the state, brings a 14-3 mark into tonight’s action.
