Hayden Hidlay came up short in his attempt to win a Powerade championship, falling to old nemesis Michael Kemerer (Franklin Regional) in a battle of the top two ranked 145-pounders in the state Tuesday evening.

Kemerer scored an escape and takedown in the second period and a takedown in the third to come away with the 5-2 victory. Hidlay, who suffered his first loss of the season, was in deep in the first and third periods but couldn’t convert either shot. The Husky junior is now 0-4 lifetime against the Iowa-bound Kemerer.

Earlier in the day, Hidlay defeated Nick Monico of Saegertown 3-1 in the semifinals.

Trey Hartsock and Noah Stewart placed fifth and sixth at 195 and a 160 pounds respectively, leading the Huskies to a 13th place finish in the team standings with 83 points. There were 48 teams in the Powerade field.

Hartsock claimed his fifth place finish with a solid 4-0 shutout of Connor Buttry of Chestnut Ridge. The Husky junior escaped in the second period and took a slim 1-0 lead into the final frame. In the third, Hartsock earned three nearfall points and the victory.

Hartsock started the day with a 3-2 loss to eventual champion Dylan Reynolds (Saegertown) in the semifinals. He dropped to the fifth-place match after losing a 3-2 decision to Kevin Snyder of Maryland.

Stewart lost a 2-0 heartbreaker in his bid for fifth against Paul Dunn of Bethel Park. With the score all zeroes heading into the final period, Stewart got two high with his power half and Dunn shrugged him off for the reversal and the win.

To reach the fifth-place match, the Husky junior downed Brett Bryant (Ohio) 3-1 and Jimmy Miller (Brookville) 5-0 before falling to rival D.J. Holllingshead of Altoona by a 2-0 score.

Franklin Regional edged out Buchanan, California for the team title winning 199-196.5.

The Huskies are back in action Wednesday, January 7th on the road against Altoona.
