Super 32 Results: MC Wrestlers Stay Perfect, Reach Quarterfinals

The four-man Mifflin County contingent went 13-0 on day one to reach the quarterfinals of the Super 32 tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina on Saturday.

Hayden Hidlay (4-0) at 152, Trent Hidlay (3-0) at 160, Noah Stewart (4-0) at 170 and Trey Hartsock (2-0) at 195 pushed through the toughest preseason event in the nation to stay in the winner’s bracket.

The biggest wins of the day came from Trent Hidlay and Hartsock, as both knocked off ranked wrestlers in the third round. Hidlay defeated A.J. Pedro 2-1 in overtime and Hartsock took care of Kevin Snyder by a 5-2 count.

Second-ranked Hayden Hidlay breezed into the quarters with a fall, technical fall, major and a 7-3 decision. The senior faces Fernie Silva when day two action begins at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Stewart, ranked 12th nationally, cruised on day one with a fall, a major decision, and 7-0 and 8-2 decisions. Stewart hooks up with No. 8 ranked Louie Deprez in the quarterfinals.

Trent Hidlay received a first-round bye, picked up a 4-0 win, took care of Pedro and eked out a 3-1 sudden victory in the fourth round. Hidlay meets Iowa recruit Kaleb Young of Punxsutawney in the quarters. Young is ranked No. 10 in the nation.

Hartsock had a bye, a tech fall and the victory over Snyder to advance. He will meet Christian Araneo in the quarterfinals.
