David Taylor, top ranked 165-pounder from Penn State, breezed to victory at the 2013 NWCA All-Star Classic held on Saturday.

Taylor faced off against Iowa State’s Michael Moreno, ranked fourth in the preseason, and picked up a 13-2 major decision victory.

The news wasn’t so good for the other entrant for the Nittany Lions.

Matt Brown, ranked third at 174, dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Andrew Howe of Oklahoma. Howe, a former NCAA champion and runnerup when he was at Wisconsin, took a redshirt during the Olympic year and set out last season after transferring to the Sooners.

In the featured match of the night, Logan Steiber of Ohio State defeated Kendric Maple of Oklahoma 6-4, in a battle of returning national champions.

Steiber, a two-time NCAA champ, moved up a weight class to challenge Maple, the defending champion at 149 pounds.
